Land Ho!

The other night, I met someone who lives on 130 acres of land.

I want some land. We live in a really nice place with about 3/4 of an acre, but that’s not land. I want Land.

(Side note: having a house on said land would be a plus. But I do have a couple of tents we could set up in a pinch.)

Land is something I’ve always wanted, to be honest. My “dream” residence, from the time I was very young, was a cabin, on a mountain, in the woods, with a lake in the backyard. Not too picky. I’m willing to forgo the mountain now, and even the lake, for a quantity of acreage sufficient to build a barn and raise and grow some of our own food.

I don’t want horses or cows on my acreage. Too much work. Even sheep and goats are kind of outside the scope of this fairytale. Chickens, however, sound ideal. We eat tons of eggs and at least one bird every week. And I currently drive almost 40 minutes one way to get pastured poultry products. A small flock would be worth the trouble for our family, it seems. People who know about these things suggest that you can raise free-range chickens fairly simply. I bet we could do it.

All I need now is some land.

  1. you and my sista. She wants a farm, tho, not just land, where she can raise Angora Goats (don’t even ask me what that means, cause I don’t know….some kind of goats that produce good….wool?) and make goat cheese. And have chickens and a big garden. Sounds nice, but not what I would want.

My dream residence? Would be an apartment in central Stockholm, with a view of the water, a balcony where I could sit in the summer, and near a tram station, because you can be anywhere in Europe by taking a train. Love the trains. About 1500 sq ft of space would be fine. I would have lots less stuff. This dream flat would have a fab kitchen, because I want to be able to continue to do all the cooking and baking that I enjoy now. I wouldn’t own a car.

Glad to see I’m not the only one living in fantasyland these days…..

  2. I will come visit you in Stockholm, when I need some intellectual stimulation and want a bit of Citified. Then you can come visit me on my Land when you want fresh eggs and organic vegetable soup. And Hugh Laurie and Jensen Ackles can come with. Deal?

  3. Sounds great.

I managed to not write about him today…still working on that Scooter Libby post…and here you’ve got me thinking about him again. Sighs.

Something funny happened at work today…two people saw my wallpaper on the computer (at different times) and asked, in all seriousness, “Is that your husband?” ๐Ÿ˜€
